Sources and counting method
Multiple holidays on the same date count as one date. Substitute-only dates are excluded from the headline count but remain in the list. Holiday categories and holiday dates are different counts.
Calendar coverage
South Korea
Covers South Korean public holidays and included nationwide election and special holidays, using the rules applicable to each historical year.
United States
Covers US federal holidays, nominal and applicable observed dates. It is not a schedule of state holidays or closures for every private employer.
Japan
Covers Japanese national holidays, substitute holidays and intervening citizens’ holidays. Future equinox dates may be projected.
China
Published years include announced holiday breaks. Adjusted working days are excluded; unannounced future years use projected dates for current statutory holidays.
Taiwan
Uses named holidays and supplementary or adjusted days off in Taiwan’s government-office calendar. Private-sector arrangements can differ.
Hong Kong
Covers Hong Kong general holidays. Their scope differs from statutory holidays and does not determine every workplace’s closure schedule.
